Kanižarica

Kanižarica was a mining settlement in the municipality of Črnomelj. The coal was discovered in Kanižarica in 1838, but its exploitation became interesting only after 1856 when the Austrian iron enterprise Ritter von Friedau opened the first ironworks in Gradac in the White Carniola region. Today, the mining museum is located in the area of the former mine, which is open to individual tours on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am and to groups with prior arrangements. In the area of the former mine, today, in addition to the museum, there is also a successful industrial zone that employs about 300 people, which is about the same as the number of people employed by the coal mine during its best times.

Sample 21 is clay from Kanižarica (White Carniola). The recommended firing temperature is 900–1100 °C. The beginning of sintering is at 1100–1250 °C. At 1100 °C shrinkage is 18 % and porosity 6 %.
