Mala Bukovica

In the area of Ilirska Bistrica, the Pliocene layers are of high quality and are homogeneous grey greasy clays whose thickness is up to 70 m. In the past, there were as many as 5 brickworks and in the period from 1938 to 1950, also a lignite mine. On the surface, the Pliocene layers of this area cover about 3 km2. Ilirska Bistrica is considered to be our largest site of quality clay.
