Brickworks Boštanj – Cegovn'ca
The brickworks, known to the locals as "Cegovn'ca", belonged to the adjacent castle Boštanj and it was located along the road towards Račna, that is on the left side, a little further from the mill. In 1931, two field kilns were constructed that were wood-fired. The clay was dug in the immediate surroundings and there is still enough of it today. Whereas according to another source, the baron Lazarini opened the brickworks in 1932. They produced bricks and roof tiles. In this unit, 4 workers were employed - experts from elsewhere, while 16 day laborers - locals were also working in this facility.
After the war, this was an independent company known as "Opekarna Boštanj" (Brickworks Boštanj), which was eventually managed by Ciril Grabljevec, a famous partisan fighter from Glagovica near Šentvid pri Stični. They produced small-sized bricks and they were mainly sold across the municipality of Grosuplje.
Prior to the closing, 7 workers were permanently employed in the brickworks, while seasonal workers from the surrounding area were hired during the summer. Due to outdated devices, the brickworks became economically unprofitable and the clay pit located in the middle of agricultural land also impeded the management and development of the agricultural economy of Grosuplje, which was managing the surrounding land at that time. Thus, the brickworks was closed down in 1962.
The clay pit was later flooded by water and the pond Boštanj (informally Cegovn'c) is maintained by the Fishing family Grosuplje, which also has its own home here. The former brickworks is now a carpenter's workshop.
Sample 35 is clay from Boštanj (Lower Carniola). The recommended firing temperature is 900–1200 °C. The beginning of sintering is at 1200–1250 °C. At 1200 °C shrinkage is 17 % and porosity 5 %.
