Beginnings of brickworks in the municipality of Renče – Vogrsko

The beginnings of the brickworks in our area date back to the distant Roman period, when a Roman road that connected Aquileia with Emona of the time ran in this area. According to the written sources, Ad Fornulos (At the furnaces) was one of the many outposts based along this route. It was supposed to be located in the area between Bilje and Bukovica. Already in 1982, several kilns in the area of Bilje (Križ Cijan), as well as a work facility and a canal linked to a firebox, were discovered during the archeo- logical excavations.
