Borjana
Borjana is an elongated and nucleated settlement in the area of Breginjski Kot, 8 km west of Kobarid.
The story of the Turkish invasion and a fierce battle in the field near the village of Kred (known also as Krejsko polje), presumably around 1478, is still preserved among the inhabitants. The attack was supposed to take place during the winter time and the villagers from the surrounding villages diverted the Nadiža River to Krejsko polje, where a frozen lake was formed. During the Turkish incursion, the Turks were chased to the flooded and frozen Lapoč (marsh), where Turkish horses and the Turks wearing sandals slid across the area, whereas the locals wearing crampons moved swiftly and pierced their enemies with their pitchforks and mowed their heads as hay with their scythes. Those who were saved swore: "We will never come to this place again; they have iron arms and legs!"
